Romania has great hunting and trekking in the Carpathians . Many villages have the old feel of Middle Europa before the World Wars.
Only two hours from Miami – an incredibly cheap, unspoiled volcanic paradise with the Caribbean on one side and the Pacific not far away on the Western side – with some of the best sport fishing and warm water surfing in the world.
Morocco is a great adventure paradise because of the close proximity to Europe. Excellent surfing, mountain climbing (even some skiing) trekking the Western Sahara as well as the Rif and High Atlas mountains are all possible within a few days.
The Middle East meets the Mediterranean providing a great adventure mix – skiing in Baalbek, sailing and surfing in Beirut – often on the same day. Even during wartime outbreaks, most of the country is relatively peaceful.
Guadeloupe , in the French Carribbean, is known for tranquil waters. However, at this time of year – crystal clear waves are generated by distant weather systems, far from the tropic paradise.

On week from tomorrow night I will board a LAN flight down to Santiago, Chile. The next morning I will connect to fly across the Andes to Mendoza, arriving late Monday morning. Though Spring is well underway, the Andes will still be under a deep snowpack, so there should be some excellent photo opportunities. I will be traveling along the “White Wall” from Mendoza all the way up to the high desert city of Salta near the Bolivian border. Then back down toBuenos Aires for a couple of days before returning to Miami.

This morning we hired a car to take us out to Teotihuacan – seat of the Aztec Empire. Above is the Templo del Sol. The weather was brisk – 60 at best, with some cold showers – but great viewing.

Late in the afternoon we went to the Zocalo to watch the Army lower the giant flag before sunset . It was not to be – Communist agitators had gathered at the front of the Palacio Nacional to block the troops – hoping for a confrontation. Riot police were at the ready. There was no trouble, however – rain dispersed the crowd .

Since I abide by the US Treasury Department regulations, and to avoid angering my fellow Miamians – I have never set foot on Cuban soil. However, during my many trips to South America, I have flown over Cuba many times. Cuba will be an adventure paradise for a LONG time – thousands of kilometers of untouched beaches, wild tropical mountains, unfished, unpolluted reefs and deep seas. Above is Matanzas Bay.
