In 2013 ArcticTropic swam in three of the five oceans – Atlantic,Pacific and Indian. They will all be immersed in again before mid ’14. The Arctic and Southern Oceans are more of a challenge to get to and to swim in , but we will get to both soon.
Mongolia – with only 2.5 million people in 600,000 spare miles is the most sparsely populated country on Earth. The center of the Asian Continent is an empty spot on the globe !

ArcticTropic first went to China, then to Mongolia,then returned to China. Events are listed in order under each country rather than in exact chronological order.
From Shanghai we flew two hours South to Guilin – the main city of GuangXi Autonomous Province. Bordering Vietnam, the area has very hot,humid summers and cool foggy winters. Above ,we journey down the Li RIver towards Yangshuo. The cone shaped karst mountains begin here and are prevalent though Northern Vietnam and into Thailand.

Guilin, at 3 million people, is considered a large town or small city by Chinese standards.
Yangshuo is considered a village, at 300,000.
The area is very fertile,with rice paddies everywhere.
Rich in all cultures.

Hong Kong, while less exotic than it used to be, is probably the most thriving city in the Far East. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is more than just a city – it is really more like a small country as seen here in this fast paced panoramic. Hong Kong was our final stop before heading back to the United States.

ArcticTropic was in Spain – the first stop on the Round The World Trip – for three days – to visit with business associates in Barcelona and then to pick up my son who was accompanying me to China. Above – the AVE from Barcelona to Valencia.

ArcticTropic recently made a trip around the world, The takeoffs and landings are as follows : Miami – Berlin – Barcelona – Valencia – Zurich – Beijing – Ulanbaataar – Guilin – Hong Kong – Tokyo – Dallas – Miami.
In a few hours we depart from Hong Kong back to MIami – via Tokyo and Dallas -completing our journey Around The World.
Guanxi Province, South China . We travelled via small bamboo boat from Guilin to Yangshuo on the Li RIver. Being on the river afforded some relief from the 102 degree heat ( 39 C ) .
Karst formations begin in South China and are prevalent in nearby Vietnam, as well as Thailand.

We arrived in Beijing at 5;15 this morning. After a day spent meeting
with our Beijing team, getting train tickets for Mongolia and getting
organized in general we went for an early dinner at Donghuamen Night
Market. On the menu – Tarantula.
Yesterday and last night’ s flight was upgraded to Business for the 10
hour Zurich to Beijing leg – Thanks Swiss !
